Feeling Flat And Being Fat = Different

Starting today I'm officially on a take-out food strike. No fast food for me for a long while! I'm also going to change my snacking habits, and try to eat more fruits and veggies. I'm also going to start getting out more. I have a habit of heading for the couch as soon as I get home from work, but now I'm going to try my hardest to do almost anything besides lie down when I get home.

Why am I doing this?

Lately I've been feeling really down; I have no energy, I don't feel pretty and I've been down in the dumps. I used to think that losing weight was a miracle cure that would make me feel beautiful and healthy, but I realize now that there's a lot more to it than that.

I'm 5'2" and I weigh 141 pounds as of last night.

I'm not comfortable when I sit down, I feel too heavy when I walk, and I can't run around like I used to. I'm going to change this right now, and every Wednesday I'm going to do a little health update. I think this might motivate me to stick to it and be good to myself.

Just to be clear, I think that feeling down about yourself and being fat are things that should have nothing to do with eachother. Every shape is beautiful and it's sad if you use size to look down on people or yourself. My adventure in healthy living is not to achieve a certain number on the scale or fit into any little black dresses.

Wish me luck and send me positive vibes! Also, if anyone wants to do this with me, just send me an email and maybe we can turn this into something more fun!

Hugs and poops,

Nichole

  2. I think this is great! I have been trying to claw my way out of depression and start working out. Thankfully, I cut out most fast food awhile ago, so that part is easy right now. You just have to remind yourself that fast food is bad for you, and that there is plenty of delicious easy meals you can make at home. I'm always so tired, so I crash on the couch when I get home most nights. I have been trying to work in an exercise session every day, but it's been hard. I've done a few workouts recently. My boyfriend is pretty good about working out every day, so it's just a matter of me following his pattern. Easier said than done!

My suggestion would be to get a few things that would be simple to use for basic workouts. An exercise (yoga) mat, a medicine ball or kettle bell, and a jump rope are a good start. You can do just sit up/crunches, push ups, lunges, etc with the weighted item and you can really feel it after awhile. The jump rope is good for cardio, and can be fun to use!

I know you can do it, and I will be looking forward to your progress posts, so as to motivate me to also keep up with regular exercise! ;)

    1. I'm thinking about buying an elliptical trainer. I never go to the gym when I have a membership!

You're right about making basic workouts more available, I just need to make myself do them.

We'll do this together :) Keep me updated on your progress too!

    2. We just got an elliptical this week, but I haven't had a chance to use it. I don't like running outside, so hopefully this helps. I'll keep you updated on my progress, and hopefully there is some! :P

  4. Good luck on your journey Nikki! Changing lifestyle habits is always tough going at the start, but totally worth it in the end. I know you'll reach your healthy lifestyle goals :)

  5. I don't know why, but I haven't see any of your recent posts until now. Oops!! I put on a few pounds this past semester, and I have also been feeling crappy and blobby. I currently weigh 195 pounds, that's after losing a pound this past week. I'm 5'9". I would like to be around 170, but I'm actually more interested in just feeling better these days. Hubby and I have agree to eat healthy and have been doing so for one week. No more chocolate for me, and I've been snacking less and eating more veggies. We are horrible at eating veggies. Luckily there isn't much take-out here, so we don't do that much.

I also did yoga today, which was fun. I wish you luck!!!

    1. I've always been interested in yoga.

I can't cut chocolate out, I'd be kidding myself, ha ha.
Good luck with your new diet!
